Thanks for this (over) analysis, Lady Macbeth  :-) . Taking the job of
JKR's lawyer in this matter, I have a simple explanation: Wizard
telescopes are magical, and can see stars and planets below the horizon!

Either that, or Harry got a T in his astronomy OWL...
