You know, a thought has recently occured to me:
Snape's mother divorced that abusive man. And later, she married 
Albus Dumbledore, but kept her maiden name.

What if Severus Snape's mother is Minerva McGonagall (she's certainly 
old enough, at 70). Would certainly explain few things...
