Geoff:
Knowing that JKR currently lives in Scotland, I wonder whether there
is a tip of the hat here to "pure-blood" Scots folk as opposed to
those who have been tainted by the Sassenachs (=English)?
A true Scotsman should wear nothing under his kilt. Obviously, Archie
(in GOF) also believed in the same Spartan approach to life - in
addition to giving Hermione a strong fit of the giggles.
