Hanna, I think your examples are wonderful and I don't think that 
anybody mentioned them yet. I absolutely agree witht he first one 
ina sense that although it is not an unusual behaviour for a teen, 
it was not done for any HIGHER purpose. So, yes, he should feel 
sorry for it and he does after Lupin's comment as you said.

I would have agreed with the second one also, but for Harry being 
eleven. If he was at least fourteen, I would have been much less 
forgiving.

Besides, JKR could not have Harry and Snape reconciliation in book 
1, could she? :)

I tend to think that it was mainly plot based reason not to have 
Harry apologise.
