In an interview 10/6/2000 someone asks JKR:  Is Voldemort some sort of
relative of Harry's? Possibly his mother's brother?
JKR replies: I'm laughing...that would be a bit Star Wars, wouldn't it?

But she didn't actually say no, it seems she has taken a lot of ideas from
books, movies, stories...
