Steve,  I believe the tunnel behind the 4th floor mirror will be a 
vital part somewhere in the next two books.  Having Fred and George 
in town with a joke shop could also prove handy since they know all 
the secret tunnels between Hogsmeade and Hogwarts without using the 
map.  I also remember DD saying he has a scar above his knee that is 
a map of London, that he finds useful.  I think that may also come 
into play.
