Begging pardon for butting in.  HP was already "The Boy Who Lived" by this time.  Neville was 8 at the time of the dropping out of the window business although Neville doesn't say how old he was at the timeof the near-drowning.  Any DE worth his salt already believes the Potter kid was LV's undoing.  Besides, if Neville was a squib, he wouldn't have had the power to defeat LV, IMO.  I think a DE would be happier with a squib for a great-nephew than the vanquisher of his Lord and Master.
