Blame it on Mr. Dale.  Ginny's eyes are referred to as brown in both 
the UK and US editions, as well as on the UK audiotape. But Dale 
definitely says "green" on the US audiotape.

formulated all sorts of fascinating theories about what Ginny's green 
eyes signified before she found out it was only a mistake...
