I think that in GoF when Snape accuses Harry of stealing boomslang
skin he is at least partly using legilimency. Harry believes he has
stolen the boomslang skin (he thinks Snape is refering to in second
year when Hermione made the polyjuice potion) so he responds by
feeling guilty. Snape then assumes Harry has done it and so does not
follow up the matter of who else might have taken it or why. In this
case he presumably only got feelings and not much else or he would
have realised Harry was thinking of an incident two years ago. Just
my opinion.
