Hannah: Harry's maternal and paternal grandparents are indeed dead.  
On the World Book Day chat, someone called Rita asked;

'What happened to Harry's grandparents?  Will we ever learn about 
them?'

JKR replied; 'They're all dead and not particularly important to the 
story, although you will find out a little bit more.'
