Harry discovered several things in book 2, including

1) Ginny's crush 

2)  Existence of house elves and the rules governing them

Now, what any of these might have to do with HBP is anyone's guess.

I think it has more to do with the founders of Hogwarts. While we learned a bit about Salazar and Riddle being his heir we did not get much info. on the heirs of the other founders. 

ie) will we find out in book 6 that Harry is the true heir of Gryffindor?
