Harry's Family (or lack thereof)

It seems to me that in OotP that DD says Harry has to live with a 
relative of Lily for the protection to work.  Even if any of James' 
relatives were alive then they would not work.  Also I find it hard 
to believe that he would not have a great aunt or uncle or some kind 
of relative unless there was some kind of vendetta against the Potter 
side.  If the Potter side is as magical as we assume (i.e. it is 
composed of wizards going back several generations) he should have a 
few 2nd cousins or something as Sirius says all families are 
interrelated in some way.  Maybe the Potters were isolated after an 
early marriage to a muggle before it became a normal thing.
