Mac: I know there are other theories about how that page came to be 
in Hermione's hand (and let's face it SURELY Pomfrey, Dumbledore, 
McGonagall etc would have examined her closely enough to discover it 
when she was first petrified?), however ...

Even if Hermione is a goody-goody saint with the greatest respect 
for books etc., desperate times call for desperate measures and, 
after all, the school was under threat of being closed, students 
killed (let alone petrified) at any time etc., What would ANYONE do 
given a choice between human life and the destruction of evil versus 
the wonton desecration of a library book - hmmmmmmmmmm tough choice? 
(I think not, but then I'm not Hermione).
