Because he is pretty unwilling to admit to himself, at that point,
that he misses Ron. I'm sure that everyone has had an argument with
a good friend, and been so angry or hurt that you can't see how you
can ever make up with them.

Because he doesn't want her to be disappointed in him. IMHO, Harry
respects Hermione's opinion of him beyond anyone else's, and doesn't
