I was just thinking that it took old Volly a while to get back to
full power. He only regained his form and the power to touch Harry
at the end of GOF, so we wouldn't open with an attack on Privet Drive
a few short months later. And I think DD doesn't realize the full
implication,(even though, or maybe, because, he seemed happy that LV
had "overcome" that particular obstacle). I'm sure DD believes
Privet Drive is safe.

Well, I though the Dementor attack in the opening scenes of OOP was
pretty intense, and JKR wrote her way around that! :)

Angie replies: I agree that this is more likely, given what JKR said
about the scene (info I was not privy to, obviously, when I started
this thread!), and nothing would please me more.

I don't know, this to me seems to be a end of the book type
revelation, like the identity of the heir of Slytherin. But I
certainly wouldn't object to finding out early on!
