In war time how is it "remarkable" to die?
The wizarding world was in "civil war" so to speak. Voldemort was on 
a rampage. It is not remarkable that the parents of two Volemort 
resisters would have met untimely ends.

That said, hasn't it been said that Hermione is a lot like Lily? 
One of the most talented (clever? remarkable?) witches of her age? I 
have a vague memory of this... So that would make Lily one of the 
most remarkable witches of her age, wouldn't you fear her with her 
wand out... just a bit?
