Six books?  He's been in them all so far, so that  suggests to me that 
he'll be dead by the end of HBP.  Maybe that  indicates some kind of 
attack on Hogwarts, in which other teachers  (including DD) die.  That 
could be what she's getting at in her  rather ominous 'some people won't 
like this'  message.

I don't think that JKR statement on Flitwick means he will die...  Do  you 
expect her to say "well I didn't really have a place to put his  background
in the books this far, and I doubt I'll have room in the 7th, so..."   That's 
not her!  She's not going to give away who's going to die/or not  die! 
It wouldn't make since for her to say something about book 7 when she
hasn't even started on that yet.  Not saying that he won't die in  HBP,
I just don't think her statement can be considered a clue, or at lest  not
IMO.
