Hi, I'm Gardengirl, and I'm new here. But I have to respectfully 
disagree on this one. It's just not consistent with the conventions JKR 
employs in her stories. In the fabulous bit from the New Yorker in 2000, 
JKR's use of classical myth, storytelling, conventions and the like, are 
well argued. And nowhere in that does Killing Off the Loyal Friend appear.

Just MHO.
