I agree that it seems unlikely that the Pope would bother with Harry
Potter as one of his first acts/pronouncements. Let's face it, in a
world beset by hunger, prejudice, war, disease, and hatred, Harry
Potter just ain't all that important.
Having said that, I would not be at all surprised if Benedict XVI has
some rather firm opinions on the subject of Harry Potter. He is the
kind of man who has wide ranging interests and very firm opinions
about a lot of things.
I agree that emailing him is likely a good idea, if only to register
one's opinion. However, I seriously doubt it will change his mind
should his opinion of Harry Potter be negative (which I suspect it
probably is, at least in part). Just as Rowling is an author who
writes the story she feels is appropriate regardless of what her
readers think, Benedict XVI is a theologian who expresses the moral
opinions he feels to be correct without regard for what his listeners
think. He wouldn't be much of a Pope if he did otherwise.
