Hmmmm, brainstorm. Maybe Voldemort did send one of his minions after 
the keeper and the keeper was Bode, but the mission didn't produce 
the intended results.

More interesting brainstorm: how are prophecies preserved in their 
orbs? When the orbs are broken, pearly white figures emerge, revolve 
and voice the prophecy. I'm guessing that the person who hears a 
prophecy goes to the Dept of Mysteries, where the memory of the 
prophecy is extracted in a pensieve. Some sort of wizarding 
reproduction is done, and voila! the reproduction is contained in 
the orb.
