Oh yes, "Ignorance is no defence against the Law" in Britain too.  
Don't forget that the bones of your laws are based on our legal system 
LOL!

When I read the phrasing of the charges though, they didn't seem 
particularly 'British' to me though - not that I'm a solicitor or 
anything!

I'm wondering if they will try him under WW law, which will be 
extremely difficult seeing as we don't know that much about it, other 
than you seem to be tried in front of the whole 'government' rather 
than a jury of your peers - thank God that doesn't apply in the RW!! - 
and that a character reference from the 'right' person will get you 
off of just about anything! (Snape, Hagrid having been vouched for by 
DD)
