Don't know about that. It might just have been an old book at the time the
young Snape had it.

I think Harry was just unobservant (as was I when I read HBP for the first
time!)

He saw Snape's "small, cramped" handwriting in the Pensieve scene the year
before and, like us, should have recognised it straight away in the Potions
book...
