I guess there wasn't any alternative. The WW is fairly conservative, 
especially when it comes to education – I mean really; Snape's 
mother 50 years ago used exactly the same handbook. If Slughorn 
wanted to give his students a less lousy manual he would have to 
write it himself. Something he would certainly not bother to do.
