Hm, don't have the book with me now. Did he say "was"? Wasn't he
saying that it was I who invented the spell, I the Half - Blood
Prince.
Again, don't have the book with me now, but it sounded to me as if he
still calls himself that name.

Seriously though, I again getting back to the question Janeway raised
earlier - does that advice sound to you as advice of someone
who "understands" Harry and wants to teach him something?
Harry did not master Occlumency and gave up doing it, because he does
not repress his feelings, as JKR said.
Do you think that repressing his feelings would somehow help him?
I am not sure.
