I think that Harry was close to it or at least has seen it when he 
went to hide the potions book in the room of requirement.

Have you seen the drawing at the beginning of the chapter when Harry 
hides the potions book? That chest looks exactly like the one 
Dumbledore put in flames in Voldemort's orphanage? Maybe that is the 
horcrux. Anyway what do you think?
