I wondered about the cabbage smell thing.  Doesn't polyjuice potion 
smell of cooked cabbages?  When I read this, I kind of flipped out, 
but I have no idea why/who would want to impersonate a squib.  Unless 
someone was trying to get/stay close to Dumbledore and the Order...or 
close to Harry.  LV's mom must be pretty old though...and if she is 
still alive, why is she still underground?  Why would she have gone 
underground at all?  Did she think that Tom would come back for his 
son, and that somehow they'd be reunited as a family?  Would she have 
secretly watched her son all these years, then been horrified at what 
he'd beome and tried to fight against him?  It is an interesting 
question.
