   I think Apollyon is also a demon that Christian fights 
in "Pilgrim's Progress", which I must read one day.  The name 
means "destruction", and has apocalyptic connotations, so it's pretty 
funny paired with Pringle.  It's like being named Prissy Hellfire or 
something.

   My own guess is that JKR named him Apollyon just because she wanted 
a scary-sounding name, to let us know that Argus Filch is but the 
latest in a long line of nasty Hogwarts caretakers.  I don't expect 
Apollyon to be mentioned again, but we shall see!
