But Snape was hostile to Harry during their very first encounter, long
before any of these things would have been apparent to Snape. The
Parsletongue incident didn't even occur until Harry's second year! 
Are you suggesting precognition?

Amiable Dorsai:
If Snape thought that Harry was a "Dark Lord in making" he handled the
problem in a very poor way.  Wouldn't it be better to befriend the lad
and try to mold him into something better?

Granted, that would take a measure of empathy and kindness we have
zero reason to believe Snape ever possessed...
