I think it is interesting as well that Dumbledore allowed Harry to
try to call the horcrux in the cave to him. If it had been a true
horcrux, would it have recognized a part of itself in Harry? Harry also
was not able to stick his hand into the potion, so again the defenses
did not recognize him. There did seem to be some affinity between the
diary and Harry. This is a very interesting line of inquiry. Are there
any other instances in the books where Harry felt something about an
item. JKR said that careful readers would be able to identify at least
one of the hircruxes.
