I think you hit the nail on the head; Harry is going to have to 
learn to be a very very good at Occlumency in order for him to 
do any better against Snape.  Harry will need it when he goes up 
against LV.  Could it be Snape was trying to teach Harry a hard 
lesson that Harry had failed to learned any other way?
