I am going to post long reply to Betsy's post when I am home, but I
just have to add on Gerry's comment. I believe that Lupin DID pull
off miracle as in he made Neville laugh at his biggest fear. I don't
remember anywhere in the books Neville laughing at Snape again.
Besides, Lupin was not there in their fourth year, wasn't he? I
speculate that he would have pull off some long term miracles, if he
was their teacher and yeah, I don't remember Neville being called a
joke either.
What I DO remember is how FAST he became one of the best DADA
students when teacher employed the style directly opposite to what
Snape does.
