Actually, to be pedantic "rubeus" means "produced from a bramble". Now 
there's an interesting thought re Hagrid!!!?

The adjectival colour red is "ruber" and when used of hair 
colour "rufus" - as with the nickname applied to William II (William 
Rufus).
