I was thinking the same thing, especially after reading in HBP how Harry was
writing his Dementor essay for Snape, knowing that he and Snape disagree
on the best way to repel Dementors. It would not surprise me if the Snape
way has to do more with Occlumency than thinking of a Happy Memory. Pointing
out the shape of the Lestranges and the other Death Eaters that escaped with
them, and comparing them to Sirius, is more evidence that this could be fact.
