Bart:
The major problem with this is that JKR has stated, numerous times,
that her knowledge of the occult is limited to common knowledge (or at
least was when she planned the books; she may have learned something in
the meantime). Therefore, scholarly analysis of occultism is a great way
of going in the wrong direction.
