The diary was the very first horcrux.  But...I like the idea of Snape 
AKing Voldemort from behind - possibly at the same time Voldemort had 
grown impatient and decided to AK Lily.  That might explain why the 
house im/exploded.  Normally an AK wouldn't do that - possibly the 
ripping of Voldemort from his body might...but what if two AKs hit at 
the same time...similar to 2 wands with the same care hitting at the 
same time?  Hmmm...more food for thought, huh?
