In response to you both, it's been pretty obvious for a while that
werewolves in JKR's universe do not respond poorly to pure silver (in
their human form, at least).  But I had always given the silver hand
theories value just because of the symbolic meaning.  Kind of in the
same way that Sirius's "grim" form and captivity at GRIMmauld Place
foreshadowed his death.  It doesn't have to be a scenario where Peter
kills Lupin *with the silver hand,* but you could take the silver hand
as foreshadowing because of it's traditional link between silver and
werewolves.

But, a futile exercise I guess, considering JKR has shot it down.
