Marianne:

Well, if the dragon's feeding on stags and big dogs is used to
parallel Snape's potential hand in the deaths of James and Sirius,
I'm all for it ;-).

Seriously, would non-obsessive readers of the Potter books work out
all these clues down to this level or start cross-referencing to
Fantastic Beasts? I'd think not. But, I suppose it doesn't matter
because it could work on different levels. Those of us with way too
much time and emotion invested in the books will probably discover
several layers of meaning for Snape's Patronus. (I don't think he's
also an illegal Animagus - been there, done that.) While the casual
reader will see a more surface level of connection. After all, a
dragon is a creature who is not to be trifled with, which certainly
fits the old Snapester.
