The blame belongs far more to the camel packer than to the one who
sold him the straw.

I would hardly insist that the fellow who sold the straw  beg my
forgiveness sixteen years after the fact, especially if he'd spent the
intervening time trying to put the camel packer out of business.

And if the straw salesman hated camels with a passion I wouldn't
expect him to get over it  just because he felt sorry about the one that
died.
