I wonder if that comment isn't meant to show Snape's dismissive
attitude toward love. You know, 'love is for the weak' stuff. That
would possibly be a result of him having a bad experience with it in
the past.

When we found out about Remus and Tonks, I reflected back that the 'weak'
comment was directed as a slam against Remus. It seemed to me that Snape
recognized Tonks' patronus as a wolf and put it together that Tonks pined
for Remus. My initial reading was that Snape thought Remus a poor/weak
choice for a lover.

But I like CH3ed's idea that the comment was to show Snape's dismissiveness
or disdain towards love.
