I think we have to give JKR a little latitude here -- we could 
probably find "mistakes" everywhere we look if we read everything 
absolutely literally.

Sure, we've all got lots of living relatives.  Depending on a 
particular person's religious persuasion, one might believe that each 
of us is a "living relative" of everyone else, all decended from Adam 
and Eve or whoever else you believe in.  

However, if I were the only survivor of a meteor that struck my 
family reunion, killing my parents, all of their direct ancestors, 
all of my siblings, and all of my aunts, uncles, and their 
descendants, and anyone else that I am close to, I would probably 
think of myself as having no remaining living relatives, even though 
somewhere in Manitoba there may be someone I've never met who somehow 
shares my family's bloodline.  If you were to disagree with me, I'd 
probably tell you that you were taking my words a little too 
literally...
