didn't turn in the Shrieking Shack in Prisoner of Azkaban, but
instead he turned only when the full moonlight hit him outside
the tunnel? If he only turned into a wolf in the moonlight, why
didn't he just stay inside? Did it have to do with the potion? Or
was the moon not up yet?

Quite dodgy, that <snip>
Renee:
> As the person who asks the question is very obviously referring
to the Shrieking Shack scene in POA, you're really overtaxing
people's credulity here, Pippin.
Pippin:
Um, I don't think so. The question is not just relevant to the
Shrieking Shack scenes in PoA, as I'm sure both the asker and
JKR knew quite well. It's relevant to the prank. If Lupin doesn't
transform in the shack then there's no prank. Snape will get as
far as this house and meet, um, Remus Lupin, calmly studying
transfiguration. No rescue, no life debt, no big moment for
James...nope, sorry, that's a biggie. Very important to the plot.
And if Sirius can't *know* whether Lupin will be transformed or
not when Snape arrives...well, it's a bit of a dud, isn't it?
Sirius is much cleverer than that...and that means the timing of
Lupin's transformation is ever so important, I'm afraid.
