manipulated? Both Harry and Sirius dislike Snape and distrust him.
(Of course, it's been a while since I've read Othello - so I could be

You are right, of course. What I was trying to say was how Iago and 
the character from "The Curtain" are able to manipulate others 
without these people ever realizing it. It doesn't matter so much 
that these characters were liked, but that other people put their 
trust in them.

You are also right that Sirius was a grown man and he should know 
better than to let Snape manipulate him, but Snape does manipulate 
him several times in OOTP.
