When Crouch was the boss it was legal for Aurors to use unforgivable
curses, I don't know if it still is and it doesn't really matter
because legal or not I'm sure most of them do. The WW was never a
stickler for the letter of the law, unless of course like Harry you
had the Ministry's disfavor.
