This to me implies:

"You, Quirrell, should be loyal to Dumbledore, as I, Severus Snape, 
am."

For Snape to look like a rival thief, he only need get to frustrate 
Quirrell's efforts to steal the Stone. But Snape brings the matter 
of "loyalty" into the equation.
