    I don't nessecarily agree with this idea, but I can see how it 
could be true. Reguarding Neville, could both of them (Harry and 
Neville) have been squib-like? (both the prophecy children, as I've 
heard them called) and by Voldemort marking one of them as his equal, 
merely giving that child the extra power to become a fully fledged 
wizard, as opposed to a not-quite-up-to-par-but-still-able-to-pass 
wizard?

      Even if Petunia and Vernon did think along those lines, judging 
by their attitude towards magic, it would make sense that they would 
do the *exact* opposite, and keep him as downtrodden as possible, and 
*not* try to dangle him out balcony windows. They don't want him de-
Squibbed.
