  Angie again:

   I'm sure Harry did well just to get the Dursley's to pay for 
glasses  -- I can't see them springing for Lasic!  I don't know why 
wizards can regrow bones but can't fix their eyes.  But remember, DD 
wears glasses, too, and there are references to other magic folk with 
glasses (like McGonagall).  I have to fall back on the totally 
unsatisfactory (as of now) conclusion that Harry has glasses because 
JKR wants him to have glasses.
