I personally thought the portkey was a brilliant idea, because it got 
Harry into LVs clutches, but still left LV's mole back at Hogwarts.  
If undiscovered, who knows what kind of havoc Crouch!Moody could have 
caused?  I actually felt bad for Voldemort when Crouch!Moody had to 
reveal himself because of Harry's inconvenient return.  I 
thought, "Damn, he lost his most excellent spy!"
