I think your theory is really interesting, but I found what might be a
simpler answer to the question.
I just happened to open up SS/PS to the chapter "Through the
Trapdoor", which starts off saying, "In years to come, Harry would
never quite remember how he had managed to get through his exams when
he half expected Voldemort to come bursting through the door at any
moment."
Perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part, but the fact that Harry
will come to a time in which he will have the luxury to let his memory
stray to his first year at Hogwarts, indicates to me that he will be
alive for at least several years after he has finished with Hogwarts.
My own experience is that I didn't wonder how I survived the things I
went through while at school until at least 5 years after all of my
formal schooling was over.
