Well, I'll try, though I don't have much to come up with by way of
an answer, except that it does seem possible. Unfortunately, if this
were the case, it would make James and Sirius even more short-
sighted than I thought they were. If they had no particular reason
to distrust Lupin, the possibility that it *was* Peter ought to have
crossed their minds. Also, I hope you don't mind if I find this
scenario too undramatic to be appealing, though this doesn't
necessarily speak against it.
