As to Lockhart - the guy had a wonderful resume.  Look at all the books he wrote.  As someone who has hired many an employee, you never really know them until they work for you for a while.  Some people interview really well and can tell you a good line and never work out on the job.  If you were to sit in on an interview with Gildaroy I think you'd never know that he really didn't do all the things that were in his books.
